Talented young actress Anushka Sen, who has been a part of shows namely Baal Veer, Devon Ke Dev Mahadev, and Internet Wala Love, has bagged the lead role as Rani Lakshmi bai in Colors’ upcoming historical show Khoob Ladi Mardaani – Jhaansi ki Rani.

In a conversation with us, Anushka spoke about the challenges she met to play the coveted role, being patriotic in real life, and more.

She shared, ‘Bagging the lead role in Jhansi is like a dream come true for me. I still can’t believe that I am playing such powerful role of Rani Lakshmi bai on small screen. I have received a tremendous response from the time the promos have hit the TV screens. In my actual life also, I am very a patriotic person. My parents have been very supporting and are proud me.’

On talking about the challenges she met to play the role, she said, ‘Well, I never knew horse riding or sword fighting. The production house made me first take training to better myself. I have injured myself several times, but I made myself mentally and physically strong. When you try to do something out of your comfort zone we have meet with the challenges.’

We asked if she was apprehensive about playing such a powerful role at this young age, to which she replied, ‘Who wouldn’t want to play such a powerful role? Actors wish to play such characters, and I am the luckiest one. The show has changed me as a person. I walk and talk differently from before. I have become more strong-minded.’

We asked if she is up for the comparison with Kangana Ranuat as she also plays Rani Lakshmi bai in recently launched film Manikarnika. She shared, ‘Kangana is my inspiration for the kind of women-centric roles she has played. I will be happy if people compare me with her. She is a legend, and I loved her in the film. Although we both play the same role, how we justify our roles is up to us.’

Good luck, Anushka!
