Years may come and go but the Telly Tube is always on a spree to entertain its viewers by rolling out shows with different flavors. Of all the genres, comedy has always been audience’s favourite, thus, the small screen often treats the audience with different comedy series whether fiction or non-fiction. The year 2016 has been a year in which not many comedy shows that launched were able to viewers’ interests but some of them surely did. Some long running popular comedy shows continued to win audience’s love with their rib tickling humour.

Here we list down some of the popular comedy shows of the year 2016 –

The Kapil Sharma Show (K9 and Frames; Sony TV)

Comedy Nights With Kapil need no introduction, a show that made Kapil Sharma a prominent Comedy Star overnight. The show was loved by one and all, but shut leaving fans disappointed. Comedy King Kapil soon surprised the audience with his all new The Kapil Sharma Show on Sony TV. The format of the show remained the same with very few changes in the cast but the new season had a new set, new characters and continued to entertain the audience with much more laughter and fun.

Bhabhiji Ghar Par Hain (Edit II; &TV))

The show continued to rule the heart of the audience this year too. The popular comedy drama is a beginner for &TV and it’s the longest running of the channel. The show too has recently witnessed a change in its format and now invites guest celebrities for its weekend special episodes. This year, the show also landed up in a controversy when Shilpa Shinde, who had become a household name as Angoori Bhabhi, was replaced after a dispute with the production house and Shubhangi Atre was roped in. After Shilpa’s exit, the fate of the show was doubtful but it still managed to keep up the pace and continues to entertain the audience.

Comedy Nights Bachao (Optimystix; Colors)

A multi-starrer non-fiction comedy show that was launched on Colors, has undergone through a phase of revamp. Starring big names from the small screen like Karan Wahi, Anita Hassanandani, Bharti Singh, Adaa Khan, Sudesh Lahiri, Krushna Abhishek, Pritam Singh among many others, it followed the format of roast comedy by inviting popular guest celebs on the show. Later, the format was revamped that omitted the concept of roasting and roped in few more names like Nia Sharma, Aditi Bhatia and many more. The show has been given a new title as Comedy Nights Bachao Taza

Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah (Neela Telefims; SAB TV)

Who doesn’t love to watch this show? The tales of Dayaben, Jethalal and the members of the Gokuldham Society are loved by every household. While the show is making us laugh since the year 2008, the popular daily continued to do so this year too and it’s been a very special year for the Taarak Mehta team. The popular comedy drama recently celebrated its 2000 ‘Happysodes.’ The popularity of the show took it to achieve newer heights this year and the cast of the popular comic drama got an opportunity to take part in Prime Minister’s Swachch Bharat Abhiyan. Now, that’s what is called popularity and achievement. The popularity of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah makes us feel like they have a long way to go.

Bahu Hamari_Rajnikant (Full House Media; Life OK)

Writer duo Amir Jaffer and Sonali Jaffer ventured into production with their debut comedy show Bahu Hamari_Rajnikant. The popular drama has a very unique concept of a daughter-in-law (Bahu) who is a Robot. The situations created by the Robotic Bahu (Ridhima Pandit) and her family facing the same, turn out to be a laugh riot for the audience. The popular daily gained a lot of fan following in a short span of time and proved out to be a good player for the channel too.

Well, we had a ‘Happy Time’ watching these comedy treats this year. Thanks to the makers of these shows to make our 2016 a ticklish one!!!
